Legal Names

While it may seem somewhat elementary and more than a little mundane, your business' name may be one of the most important decisions you have to make. It's more than just a tag under which you do business – it communicates something about you and what you do to potential clients or customers. Your business will have two names: one for legal purposes, and one for business purposes.

Running all aspects of a business can be complicated. If you have any questions about handling your business, contact Texas Legal Entities today by calling 512-472-2431.

Names

Contrary to what many may believe, your business may have two separate but equally important names: its legal name and its “doing business as” (or DBA) name. The legal name is the name of the person or group that owns the business, and how it is legally recognized, whereas the DBA name is the name you can advertise yourself under, the one that can be catchier. It is the one that is geared more towards selling your product.

Legal Name

In businesses with a sole owner, the legal name of the business is the full name of that owner. In partnerships, the legal name of the business is either the last names of the partners, or what is spelled out specifically in the partnership agreement. In corporations, the legal name is the one registered with the government.
