How to get your Business EIN?

Your Employer Identification Number or EIN is something that every starting business needs to have. This number is a Federal Tax Identification Number. This number is used to identify each and every business that exists. Generally speaking, almost all businesses need an EIN. This is a free service provided by the IRS in hopes of making things less complicated when companies have to file their taxes every year. Each state has different guidelines and requirements for getting your EIN. In the state of Texas, all businesses and non-profit organizations are required to have an EIN. This differs depending on which state you are starting your business in. Remember that if you buy a business from a previous owner, you are required to apply for a new EIN, because the old one becomes void. There are a few different ways to apply for your EIN for your new business. The first way is to apply online with the IRS. They have a portion of their website devoted to your applying for your EIN. The second way is to apply through the mail by sending the SS-4 form to the IRS offices. This way may take up to four weeks to be completed. The IRS will also allow you to apply by phone or by fax as long as the required documentation as been filled out completely and is available for you to read over or fax in to the IRS offices.
